Artboar vs Canva: local design files or a team workspace?
Published
Artboar is a good fit when you want to edit a graphic in your browser without an account, keep a portable editable file, and export a raster image. Canva is worth considering when a broad content library and a shared team workflow matter more to your project.

Where Canva may fit better
Canva’s product and plan page describes templates and stock content, PDF/JPG/PNG exports, collaboration and comments, link sharing, brand tools, and cloud storage. It lists Free, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans. Availability varies by plan; check the current details for the features you need.
Those capabilities can be useful when several people need to review a design, keep brand assets together, or start from a broad collection of content. For a team choosing a tool, try the actual review and handoff process you expect to use, including the output format your recipient needs.
Artboar does not currently provide shared design links, real-time team editing, PDF export, or video export. If those are requirements, they are concrete reasons to evaluate a tool with that workflow.
Where Artboar may fit better
Artboar is currently free to use with no account required. Start from a template or a blank canvas, edit text, shapes and local images, and keep several artboards in one project. The browser editor keeps artwork on your device. Website analytics and optional hosted MCP workspaces have separate behavior; see Artboar Privacy.
You export the active artboard as PNG or WebP and download a .design.json project to keep its editable layers. To transfer an editable design, send that file and open it in a compatible Artboar editor. Browser recovery keeps one draft locally; it does not sync devices or replace a downloaded backup.
That file-based workflow can suit an individual making social graphics or a developer preparing screenshot layouts. It also means you own the practical work of keeping project copies, transferring them, and coordinating edits with other people.
Choose with one real task
- Need a review link and comments? Evaluate Canva’s sharing and collaboration options against the current plan details.
- Need a local editable file and PNG/WebP? Try an Artboar template, make an edit, save the project, and check the exported image.
- Need a specific delivery format? Confirm it before designing. Artboar’s image exports are PNG/WebP; they do not retain editable layers.
Neither a feature list nor this comparison proves that a tool fits your project. Use a representative design and check the result, the handoff, and the backup process.
